Admission to schools is based on Cut-Off Points set by the demand of applicants and the places available.

The O level cohort of students who wish to go to a Junior College have go through the Joint Admissions Exercise (JAE), conducted annually by MOE. It allow holders of Singapore-Cambridge GCE ‘O’ Level certificate to apply for admission to courses offered by the Junior Colleges (JCs), Millennia Institute (MI), Polytechnics (Poly) and Institute of Technical Education (ITE).

REQUIREMENTS

Admission to schools is based on Cut-Off Points set by the demand of applicants and the places available. A L1R5 aggregate of 20 or less for JCs, or a L1R4 aggregate of 20 or less, for the 3-year Pre-University course offered at Millennia Institute (MI), leading up to the A levels.

BONUS POINTS (HIGHER MOTHER TONGUE)

Students seeking admission to Junior College (JC) / Millennia Institute (MI) courses and with grades of A1 to C6 in both languages (i.e. English and a HMT) will be eligible for the bonus points. This is provided You may use Higher Mother Tongue Language grades in place of English as a First Language for L1R5/L1R4 computation. However, the grades for both Higher Mother Tongue Language (viz. Higher Chinese, Higher Malay and Higher Tamil) and Mother Tongue Language (viz. Chinese, Malay and Tamil) cannot be used in the same aggregate computation.

BONUS POINTS (CCA)

CCA grade can be used for computation of aggregate score to determine eligibility of admission to MI courses but not to JC, Poly and ITE courses. For CCA grade to be used for MI courses, candidates must satisfy all the requirements on English, Mother Tongue and Mathematics stated below:

  • English Language at least C6 grade;
  • Mother Tongue or Higher Mother Tongue or Mother Tongue ‘B’ Syllabus at least a D7, E8, Merit or Pass grade respectively;
  • Mathematics or Additional Mathematics at least a D7 grade.

For candidates eligible for a JC, Poly and/ or ITE course, their CCA bonus points can be used in the computation of net aggregate for posting to JC, Poly or ITE courses. CCA grades of A1-A2 will be given 2 bonus points and grades of B3-C6 will be given 1 bonus point.

For candidates eligible for an MI course, their CCA grade cannot be used to obtain bonus points in the computation of net aggregate for posting to MI courses

FOR STUDENTS ADMITTED CONDITIONALLY TO JC

If you fail to obtain the requisite language and/or mathematics grades at the GCE ‘O’ Level Examination by the end of JC-1, you will be transferred to 2nd year of the MI course.

You have to leave the JC course regardless of whether you had been promoted to JC-2 based on internal examination results. If you still fail to obtain the requisite language and/or mathematics grades at the GCE ‘O’ Level Examination by the end of MI-2, you will be asked to leave the MI course.
